Regarded as the origin of all cultures in Peru, whose development is located chronologycally between 1200 and 200 BC, located in La Cordillera Occidental de los Andes...

Image The magic-religous center of Chavin was constructed around 327 BC at 3185 meters above sea level and three hours from the city of Huaraz, its walls and pyramidal structures are made of stone, which has provoked controversy about what it was used for: a temple? A fortress? The locals usually refers to the place as “El Castillo”. The construction presents a complex network of roads and stone tunnels lighted only by shafts of lights through ducts strategically set out. On the inside you can still see the “Lanzon Monolitico” stone sculpted of 5 meters tall on which you can observe fierce divinities, or the “Cabezas Clavas”, representing sentries fit on the walls of the Castle.Chavin was one of the first American cultures, contemporary with Los Omelcas in Mexico. It is noticeable the level of development that they reached in agriculture, architecture and ceramics as well as their management ability which allowed them to dominate a large part of the North and Center of Peru. May be the importance of the castle of Chavin de Huantar relies on that, on its strategic location as a contact point among the coast, the highlands and the jungle. For us, however, the archaeological rests discovered by the Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello in 1919, has an important value since it is relevant part of our past.
