Thanks to the efforts made by people who feel committed to Nature and Tourism, on December 24th, 2002, it was declared Natural Reserve protected by the government. The Cordillera Huayhuash, located alongside the South of the Cordillera Blanca, with a separation of 50 km. Approximately, it is a relatively small mountainous chain (30 km from North to South), which represents one of the most spectacular landscaping beauties within the Cordillera de los Andes.In the world-wide field it is popular by the film “Touch in the Void” recorded in this scenery exactly in the snow-capped mountain Siula ” and it is said that it is every bit as good as the National Park of Sagarmatha, the Himalayas, the only difference is that this has mountains that surpass 8000 meters. During the route around this mountainous chain, we will be able to appreciate some of 6 mountains of height superior to 6,000 m and others at 5,000 m, simultaneously there is a varied flora, among them we will say that there are 272 species of plants, grouped in 148 genders and 55 families, 213 belong to herbaceous species, 50 belong to the ones from bushy origin and 9 trees. With regard to the wild fauna it has been identified 61 species of birds, 14 of mammals, 2 of amphibians and 2 of fish.   Huayhuash and the Cordillera Blanca are true jewels of the Andes
